Summary

Heather Mizeur came to New Media Campaigns to create her campaign logo and responsive website for Maryland’s 2014 gubernatorial race. When elected, she will be the first openly gay governor in the country, and the first female governor in Maryland.

For Mizeur’s logo, I needed to create something that not only reflected her platform, but could be used in all aspects of her campaign. I used simple, strong lines and bright colors in the design, which helped make the logo dynamic enough to be used in everything from their web presence, email campaigns, banners, bumper stickers, and campaign t-shirts.

I carried the same modern aesthetic from the logo into the website, focusing on clean lines and bold colors. Heather had several amazing photos taken for her campaign, so I made those the focus of the site, using large banner images at the top of every page. Also on every page, it’s easy to spot how to get involved with the campaign through large contribute, volunteer, social media, and other call-to-action-buttons. Users can even tweet out their support for Heather right on the site, and have their testimonial displayed in the sidebar. Finally users can get the latest information on the race from the campaign news feed, which can be filtered by article, video, or policy.
